“He is a Fort Collins Boy”

Hi, I'm @Abner_Rams, a lifelong Ram fan, Fort Collins native, CSU alumnus, and the creator behind RamPortal.Net.

My connection to CSU runs incredibly deep. Growing up as a kid, my fall Saturdays were spent at Hughes Stadium during the peak of the Sonny Lubick era. Winters were spent at Moby. My father, a proud CSU alum, was determined to have his kids attend his alma mater. My siblings and I all graduated from CSU in the late 2000s.

My grandparents were Rams. My mother’s father graduated from CSU in the 1940s. My father’s parents met at CSU in the 1950s, and were long-time supporters of Larimer County 4-H, CSU Extension, CSU Athletics, and especially, Ag Day.

My great-grandparents were also both Rams. My great-grandmother, from an old Fort Collins family, graduated from CSU in 1914. My great-grandfather graduated in 1920 and played football at CSU for Coach Harry Hughes. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Conference 1919 Champion Aggie team. They went 2-0 against the team from Laramie, and on Homecoming October 11th, 1919, they beat the team from Boulder 49-7.

The local paper wrote about my great-grandfather in 1919:

"One of the mainstays of the Aggie line. He is the big fellow who plays right tackle. His work has been exceptionally good all season. He is a senior and will get to play but one more game on Colorado Field. He is a Fort Collins boy."

This website was designed to celebrate that legacy and contribute a little bit to the fan community. As the Rams enter the Pac-12, I believe that Power teams need Power fans.

The new transfer portal era of college sports has also made it more difficult to keep track of your team as a fan. I previously tried to track all the roster movement for CSU Football, but struggled with where to “put it” on the internet. I had everything in a spreadsheet, and one day I accidentally deleted everything. RamPortal.Net was born out of a desire to celebrate the rich history of the Aggies and Rams, while providing a clean way to navigate the fast-paced, modern era of college rosters.
